Legislation changes so quickly in social care. Joined-up Training has been commissioned by some service providers to offer an update on current legislation to help staff to keep informed of legislative changes and social care guidance for both Adult and Children’s service providers.
This course is presented for either adults or children’s services according to need.
Aims of this 1 day course are to:
1) have a clearer understanding of the UK legal framework – from concept to law
2) have revisited the key themes of relevant legislation

Care Standards Act
The course will cover the following areas:
· the UK legal framework – from concept to law
· the key themes of the Care Standards Act 2000:
¨ the Act itself
¨ the related Regulations
¨ application of the Act through internal and external inspections
· understand how this legal framework defines the professional values to which all social care workers must subscribe
· through case study examples and guided discussion be able to apply those values in day-to-day practice
· what’s new since the Care Standards Act 2000?
for children this may be “Every Child Matters”, therefore to:
a) understand your role in integrated service delivery relating to information sharing and the common assessment framework
b) recognise the role of “lead professional”
c) have revisited the key aspects of “safeguarding” and be clear about individual roles
d) through guided activities be able to relate the outcomes set in Every Child Matters to individual practice and service delivery
3) understand how the legal framework defines the professional values to which all social care workers must subscribe
4) through case study examples and guided discussion be able to apply those values in day-to-day practice
